About Jim
No two cases or situations are alike. I think that’s why I still enjoy the practice of law after more than 30 years. Every case, every individual I represent, every business that I assist, needs a counselor, an advocate, a problem solver. I do my best to effectively listen, gain understanding, and give advice as though I were standing in my client’s shoes. This approach has served me well across a variety of disciplines for many years, and now in my emerging role as a mediator.
Outside the office, I enjoy politics. I am currently serving my third term as the Supervisor (a/k/a Mayor) of Georgetown Township which covers all of the Jenison school district, most of Hudsonville and part of Grandville.
More than law and politics, I love being with my family including wife, Sheila, our eight children (and their spouses) and our 16 grandchidren (and counting). We love to travel by motorhome (always rent, never owned). I have coached numerous youth sports teams, spent 20 years as a recess volunteer at school (“Kickball Man”), and have loved being a small group leader and youth Bible teacher at our church. I have no free time, but if I did I would learn more about how to take better care of my fruit trees and goats.
